Preliminary Task

The Preliminary task was set to experiment and explore various camera shots including the 180 degree rule which I will explain furthermore in my next post. My partner, Josh Thorpe and I have planned and created a storyboard to help plot our short sequence demonstrating the 180 degree rule, exchanging a couple of lines of dialogue. Additional props may be used to emphasise characterisation or to create mystery within the chosen setting. Together my partner Josh and I form:

Here is a illustration of our storyboard which i have cropped into shots to make it more clearer of what are trying to construct:

1)Over the shoulder shot- the figure is walking down the corridor around a corner, with a coat, hung over one of his shoulders, this creates mystery and emphasises characterisation, the camera is viewing the figure at a tilted angle
2)High angle shot- the high angle shot of the figure is there to reveal the figures facial features and to make the character appear small, this shot could possibly be constructed as a shot from a security camera for example as the figure feels intimidated
3)Low angle shot- the low angle shot creates an interesting dimension as the figure approaches the door
4)Follow on... the figure reaches the door handle
5)Extreme close-up shot- this shows the minute details of the figure opening the door, which creates curiosity
6)Medium shot- the medium shot of the figure opening and entering the door creates suspicion and engages the viewer, as the door shuts slowly
7) Perspective shot- the perspective shot shows the point of view from the figure as they are observing the surroundings of the room. Another figure emerges questioning with short dialogue, "alright?"
8)Two shot- The two shot emphasises the ongoing conversation between the two characters as the main character replies with
"not particularly steve, there are some issues I want to raise with you."
9)Overhead shot- this shot shows the dominance that the character has over 'Steve' as he is in a commanding postion, as steve replies sarcastically with
"like what?"
10)Panning shot- the angle of the shot helps emphasise the character's confrontation between each other as the unknown character rises with authority as he replies
"dont lie to me Steve, you know exactly what i mean!?"
